Charolette Temple

In the beginning of the book I was a little confused with all the different characters and their different names, but as I kept reading it all made sense. I kind of liked the book actually. It was a little hard to adjust to at first with the different writing and the old english language, but it was decent. I really liked how in some chapters Rowson would talk to her readers. While reading the second half of the book, I started feeling very sorry for Charolette. It seemed like everyone was out to get her. Montraville was a coward and a snake in my opinion. He led poo Charolette to believe that he loved her and would take care of her, and then he falls in love with Miss Julia Franklin. It made me mad reading about how awful he treated Charolette. He just left her with nothing. How could anyone do that to another person and be able to go on with their day? It didn't seem like he cared at all if he was able to go out and fall in love with Julia. It really made me mad when he left Charolette all alone carrying his child. He didn't even want anything to do with his child. This just goes to show how men can be cowards when the make mistakes. Even though this book was written a long time ago, the things that happened and the way people behave still happen today. For example, girls running away with their lovers, guys knocking up their girlfriends and then abandoning them and the list can keep going. When Montraville thought he caught Charolette cheating on him with Belcour, I think it was just giving Montraville an easy way out of the relationship. I think that he knew that Charolette didn't cheat, Charolette was portrayed in the book as a nice, sweet girl who never wants to cause any harm to anyone. I was really glad when Charolette's parents were happy to hear from their daughter though. It showed that they really did care about their daughter and truely loved her. It was good to read that they were willing to move on and welcome Charolette home.

  1. It appears that I may have looked at the reading in a little bit different light than you did. I do believe that Montraville was a coward and not the ideal guy but think about yourself and if you were not happy with a guy. I personally wouldn't stick around with a guy that I wasn't completely happy even if I was having their child. I agree that he should have stuck around though rather than running off to get married. You could tell at the end of the book that he showed signs of guilt and remorse for leaving her, but who knows, girls know that no guy can make up their mind. I agree that these things still happen today because I found myself relating to the book quite well. Minus the baby part. I also agree that this was a pretty good book!
